What is Intentional Peer Support?

-
Standalone modality - not developed to work under other mental health modalities in inpatient settings
-
Intentionally non-medical and non-clinical by design
-
Rooted in a humanistic philosophy, this view sees distress and crisis as normal, expected responses to the inherent stress and trauma of modern life, not as psychological disorders to be fixed or avoided.
-
While other mental health professionals might see disorders to manage, I see opportunities for growth

Understanding Peer-Formance
Depression

Bi-Polar
-
Fostering a deep supportive connection - due to its focus on mutuality and shared lived experiences, your relationship with your intentional peer support specialist is often much closer, more authentic and more personal than your relationship with a therapist or psychologist who are often encouraged to maintain
-
Redefining distress and crisis - together we will work to deconstruct and reshape your relationship with your experiences, shifting your paradigm away from one in which your narrative is defined by symptoms and disorders and instead reframe your story to one that acknowledges, honors and values the richness, complexity, and perhaps even the value of your unique experiences
-
Moving towards hope rather than away from fear or “disorder” - IPS work involves a fundamental reorentation towards the things that fill us with hope and satisfaction and joy, rather than simply moving away from our “symptoms” or “disorders”
-
Defining wellness on YOUR terms, not based on external normative standards
-
Creating plans and strategies for achieving your wellness goals in ways that make sense to you and honor your unique experiences
